What They Do

What You Need to Get Started

  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree (in ECE, Education, or Administration)
  • Director Credential (required in many states)
  • Prior experience as a lead teacher or assistant director
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills

Experience is a MUST when wanting to take on the role of a Program Director.

Pay & Future Possibilities

Directors can earn $35,000–$60,000+ per year, depending on program size, education, and location. This role can lead to:

  • Regional or multi-site management
  • ECE consulting or training
  • Advocacy and nonprofit leadership
  • Owning your own center
